Elamae began with a question: What’s next?
Not because something was wrong. Not because life needed to be torn down and rebuilt. Just because I started wondering how much more there might be to notice, try, enjoy, and discover in the life I already had.
I’m Lauren, the founder of Elamae. I named it for my grandmother, Ada Mae. When I began imagining a place for women in midlife, I wanted it to feel open and full of possibility. A place where curiosity could lead somewhere unexpected, or nowhere in particular, and either answer would be fine.
At first, I had more ideas than I knew what to do with. I kept coming back to the ones that made me want to get up and do something: take a different route home, learn a game, investigate a question, pick up a rock and decide which one has the most charisma. Small things, but they ask us to participate instead of just moving through the day on autopilot.
That’s where the Elamae Experience Book came from. I’m making a collection of tiny invitations to interact differently with the life you already have. Each experience gives you something to do and room to make it your own. There’s no prescribed lesson at the end. You might come away with a story, a question, a new favorite thing, or absolutely no idea why you enjoyed it so much.
Alongside the book, I’m building a shop with objects that can spark an experience or come along for one. A kit that gives you an afternoon to play with. Something to wear that means whatever you decide it means. A little interruption to an ordinary Tuesday. The object is only part of it. What happens when it enters your life is up to you.
I hope Elamae grows into a place women return to when they’re curious about what else might be possible. I hope it introduces us to interesting makers, ideas, places, and one another. Mostly, I hope it gives you an occasional reason to say, “Well, why not?” and see where that takes you.
